Kindness, compassion and dignity

Regulations met

We reviewed the results of the feedback made directly to us, and online feedback. Patient feedback provided a positive view of the dental team and care provided by the practice. Patient comments included that staff were kind and welcoming, treated patients with respect and compassion. They said that staff were understanding and help put people at ease during their appointments. Patients said staff were professional, helpful and considerate. Patients felt they were treated as individuals, and their personal and cultural needs were respected.

Staff were aware of their responsibility to respect people’s diversity and human rights. Staff were aware of the importance of privacy and confidentiality. Staff felt respected, valued and supported in their roles. Leaders described how they supported the wellbeing of staff.

Staff password protected patients’ electronic care records, and paper records were stored securely and complied with General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR). We saw the general environment helped to protect patients’ privacy and dignity. The reception and patient waiting area were open plan in design. We observed reception staff were mindful of this when dealing with patient queries on the telephone and in person. Patients who wished to discuss private or confidential matters could use the manager’s office. Staff treated patients with kindness, respect and compassion.
