People told us what it was like to live at this home and described how they were treated by staff and their involvement in making choices about their care. They also told us about the quality and choice of food and drink available. This was because this inspection was part of a themed inspection programme to assess whether older people living in care homes are treated with dignity and respect and whether their nutritional needs are met.The inspection team was led by a Care Quality Commission (CQC) inspector joined by a practising professional. We spent time with sixteen people during the inspection visit. Five people were able to speak with us to tell us their views and experiences of the service. We also spoke with a visitor who had come to see their relative.
During the visit we observed the care and support being provided. Staff were respectful and explained what they were doing before delivering care. People's choices and instructions were listened to and acted upon. We observed that staff respected people's preferences during the day about when they wished to get up. People told us they were treated with dignity and respect. One person said "They are always nice when they talk to me."
We observed people eating their food at lunch time. People who needed assistance were appropriately supported by members of staff. However, none of the people we spoke with were able to tell us what food was being served for lunch. One person told us, 'It is usually on the board in the dining room but they haven't written it on today.'
People we spoke with told us they enjoyed the food. One person said, 'Anybody who says the food is no good here would be wrong. It is always very good. We are well looked after.'
People had the option to eat their meals in their room if they preferred. One person, told us they liked to eat in their bedroom most of the time and that the staff always brought their food to them. They also said 'They are good, they come and knock to see if I am alright and if I want a drink or a cup of tea.'
People told us they felt safe in the home and they would feel able to raise any concerns. One visitor we spoke to who was visiting their relative told us they would be confident to let the staff know if they were unhappy with anything.
