Our current view of the service

Elvaston Lodge is a residential and nursing home, for up to 44 people. At the time of our assessment 35 people were using the service.
We completed this assessment between 3 and 31 July 2024. We conducted a site visit on the 3 July 2024. We spoke to one person’s visitor and five people that were using the service.
At the last inspection, this location was rated as good.
We assessed 17 quality statements under the five key questions of Safe, Effective, Caring, Responsive and Well Led. We assessed these 17 quality statements as Good and the overall rating for the service remains Good.
People's experience of the service

People spoke positively of the care and support received. People said they felt safe. The visitor said the home was managed well and that staff were professional, caring and friendly.
People were supported to take their prescribed medication by trained staff. Medicine’s storage, administration and disposal were managed safely and in accordance with best practice.
People were protected from catching infections, as staff worked within the providers policy and procedure for infection prevention and control. The provider had an action plan to refurbish some areas of the home.
People were supported by sufficient numbers of trained staff who were recruited safely. This included checks for any convictions and cautions held on the Police National Computer.
People were protected from the risk of abuse and said they felt safe. Risks to people had been assessed and reviewed on a regular basis.
People were supported to have maximum choice and control of their lives and staff supported them in the least restrictive way possible and in their best interests; the policies and systems in the service supported this practice.
People were supported to participate in activities and maintain relationships with people who were important to them.
Care plans included information about people's choices and preferences. Information was appropriately shared with other health professionals to ensure people’s needs were met.
The management team ensured people's views were sought, to enable improvements to be made . Monitoring of the service was completed on a regular basis, to ensure areas for improvement were identified and acted upon.
