During this inspection on 03 January 2013 we spoke with several people using the service, they all confirmed that they felt safe and that staff helped them to do the things that they enjoyed. One person told us a great deal about the activities they liked to do and told us they made decisions at the daily morning meeting about what they wanted to do. They told us they could also talk to the cook at this meeting and choose the food they were going to eat that day. Another person told us they liked to go out and do volunteer work. Another person told us they felt safe because they always had the staff at the home to help them if they were not feeling well. All the people we spoke with told us the staff was very good. One person told us that, 'The staff always help me when I want to go out', and another said, 'The staff help me to feel more confident when I'm out'.We found that the service was providing good, person-centred care to people, which met their individual and specific needs. Staff were competent in their roles and had taken time to acquaint themselves with people's preferences and needs.
Improvements were needed to the quality of some of the records, as not all of the care plans had been reviewed and updated.
The registered manager was no longer working at the home and an interim manager had been appointed two weeks prior to our inspection
