Our view of the service
We carried out this assessment between 22 January and 23 February 2024. We completed inspection site visits on 22 and 23 January 2024. We looked at the following quality statements as part of the assessment, safe and effective staffing, medicines optimisation and safeguarding. Keychange Charity Fair Havens Care Home is a care home that provides accommodation and personal care for up to 23 people. The service specialises in providing care for adults over 65 years of age. At this assessment we found breaches in regulations of The Health and Social Care Act 2008 (Regulated Activities) Regulations 2014. The registered manager was responsive to our feedback when we raised concerns and immediately put in place an action plan to make improvements and reduce identified risks. The provider’s staff recruitment processes were not robust or in line with requirements. This meant that we were not assured that the provider had always taken appropriate steps to assess candidates experience and suitability to work with people. The systems to manage people’s medicines were not always safe, including systems around storage, ordering, record keeping and care planning. Staff had not always taken proactive action to ensure people had a sufficient supply of medicines, which had resulted in some people not receiving their medicines as prescribed. Staff had received training appropriate to their role. We observed that staff were competent when supporting people with their everyday care needs. Staff told us they did not always feel supported in their role and that they felt unable to raise issues with senior leaders as they were were not always available or approachable. The provider had effective systems in place to identify, record and investigate safeguarding concerns. They had reported safeguarding concerns to relevant authorities and worked to incorporate learning when incidents occurred.
