People’s equality and diversity were respected. People saw the GP when they did their weekly ward round at the home. Staff raised the alert if district nurse visits to the home were overdue. Newly improved surveys to gather people’s views were in the pipeline. Resident and relative meetings were held at the home and the management team gave us examples of changes made as a result of feedback from people.

The registered manager told us they audited care plans weekly to ensure they reflected people’s choices and preferences. Surveys to gather people’s views were being planned alongside the relatives and resident meetings. People’s care plans were personalised and included how they communicated their wishes and their preferences for care. People saw the GP when they did their weekly ward round at the home and people told us they got to see the GP regularly. One person told us, “The GP came to see my foot and noticed that I had an infection so I was prescribed antibiotics.” There was a system in place for staff to raise an alert to the registered manager if district nurse visits were overdue and people had not received their care visit. The home had an Equality, Diversity and Inclusion policy in place and staff received training. Staff told us they had not experienced anyone who had been subject to discrimination at the home. One staff member told us, “Everyone is respected and treated as an individual.”

People mostly told us they had their wishes respected and were listened to. One person told us, “I go to bed when I want and I like to watch the football on the TV.” However, we found one person had a specific dietary need and they told us this was not catered for in the same way as people on a regular diet.

The registered manager held relatives’ meetings and the activity co-ordinator held meetings with people at the home. The registered manager gave us examples of what changes had been made at the home in response to people’s feedback, for example, snack boxes had been put in people’s rooms. There was no information in reception about how to make a complaint. The registered manager told us they would be adding information on how to make a complaint to information in people’s rooms. The RM gave several examples of how they had supported people to achieve their goals. Examples included, adapted crockery and cutlery, purchase of a shed for someone to pursue their interest in electronics and a person went from a pureed diet to a normal textured diet.
