During a routine inspection

We used a number of different methods to help us understand the experiences of people using the service, because the people using the service had complex needs which meant that most of them were not able to tell us their experiences.

We observed care and reviewed records to help us understand the experiences of people using the service. We also spoke with relatives and visitors to the home.

Some of the people living at the home were able to indicate their agreement when asked if they liked the staff. One of the people living at the home was overheard to say 'I think you are very good at what you do' to the staff member assisting them.

Relatives told us that the staff were very nice, the home was friendly and privacy and dignity were respected. Staff knew the people living at the home well and had a good understanding of their needs.

People told us that liked Maplehurst Nursing Home.

During a routine inspection

During our visit to Maplehurst Nursing Home, the service was found to be well managed and staff were confident and competent in their roles. The premises were found to be clean and generally well maintained.

People living in the home appeared to be happy, settled and well cared for. This was supported by positive comments from relatives and also evident from direct observation of individuals being supported in a professional, sensitive and respectful manner.

As far as practicable and in accordance with their wishes and individual care plans, people were enabled and encouraged to make choices about their daily lives.
