Well-led
People using the service and their relatives expressed confidence in the local management team. People considered the local management to be transparent, supportive, and approachable. However, the senior management team was not always considered to be effective in their communication with relatives. Staff members understood their roles and responsibilities clearly and felt empowered to raise concerns when needed. There was an open-door policy where people and staff were able to approach the management team when needed.
This service scored 61 (out of 100) for this area. Find out what we look at when we assess this area and How we calculate these scores.

Capable, compassionate and inclusive leaders
Staff described the manager as open, supportive and with a positive approach. They were complimentary of the management team. One staff member said, “The management is good. If there is anything I need to enquire, they come in and they engage with staff as well. They will provide the information."
A series of regular audits took place, including medicines, staff and service user wellbeing and incident analysis. Actions were taken to address any shortfalls in audits. Systems were in place to promote effective communications with the team, including a range of meetings involving both staff and service users.
Freedom to speak up
Staff told us they felt supported by the management and felt confident in raising concerns. One staff member told us, “We have a policy in the company, speak up, and we can report to another person from the higher management. We can also speak to them about concerns or if we are not being listened to at the management level.” Staff also understood the whistleblowing and safeguarding processes. One staff member said, “Whistleblowing is about reporting wrongdoings anonymously. If something is happening, such as abuse or things are not done the right way, I have the right to speak up and it is not necessary for my manager to know about it.”
Surveys were completed to inform the management on quality issues. There was a ‘Freedom to Speak Up’ policy in place. Handovers, daily huddles, monthly staff and residents meetings occurred, where people and staff were encouraged to raise concerns and contribute their ideas. There was a suggestion box system in place and the ideas were discussed during meetings.
Workforce equality, diversity and inclusion
Staff told us they can discuss concerns and share suggestions with the management. They feel included in the team and offer each other support. “The staff morale is good. People are friendly and we work together as a team. We always ask for help from each there and encourage teamwork.“
There are policies in place that promote fair recruitment such as the Safer Recruitment and Equality Diversity and Inclusion policies. There was an open attitude to care where staff can approach the local and senior management team with suggestions or concerns.
