People's experience of this service

People told us they felt safe and confident they would be treated with understanding if they raised concerns. One person said, “The care is alright. I feel safe because of the way it is run; it is relaxing. If I had any concerns about safety or changes in my health, I would speak to a member of staff first and then to the management.” Some relatives felt the way staff approached people who had episodes of challenging behaviour could be better. People were not provided with any activities on the two days we visited. One relative said, “There is not much going on, they don’t stimulate them.” We received mixed views from relatives about infection control. Some relatives shared concerns about the cleanliness of equipment provided to their family member and poor hygiene. People told us there was enough staff. Some relatives told us the service would benefit from additional staff at busy times and further training for staff. People were satisfied with the quality of care provided. One person said, “They [staff] will get a doctor out if I am ill and the social worker comes to see me, also a nurse visits me every two months. I see the chiropodist and the dentist regularly and the optician also visits.” Some relatives were satisfied with the quality of care provided. One relative said, “It’s good care, I can go home and feel she is in safe hands, in a safe place.” Some relatives told us the quality of care provided could be improved. Comments included, “I am involved in the care planning to a point, we had a care planning meeting with the social worker, but I am not kept informed” and “I wouldn’t recommend the service; the care could be improved and there is a lack of activities and a lack of consistent approach from staff.” People and relatives made positive comments about the staff and management at the service. One person said, “Staff are good, attentive always and the food is good.”
