During the inspection we spent some time observing care practices and spoke with five people who used the service and asked them for their views. We looked at the care records for four people who used the service. People told us they felt they were treated with respect. One person with a visual impairment said, 'Most of the staff knock on my door and say who they are before they come in. I have my privacy and dignity respected, they tell me if they are opening the door or the window.' Another person told us, 'I feel well cared for, the staff treat me with respect.'
People told us they felt well cared for by the staff. One person told us, 'I feel very well cared for. They (the staff) are lovely.' Another person said, 'I wouldn't have made the progress I have if it wasn't for them (the staff)'
We asked people if they had opportunities to take part in activities during the day. One person told us, 'There's not been a lot to do lately. I love quizzes, there's not been one recently. The last one was quite a while ago.'
One person who used the service told us, 'I absolutely feel safe here. They tell me when there is going to be a fire alarm.' Another person said, 'I feel safe as there is plenty of company.'
People who used the service said they did not think there were enough staff on duty. One person told us, 'They should look at the number of staff on duty, it's unfair.' Another person said, 'I know they are very busy they say sorry for keeping you waiting.'
We were also told by another person, 'At the moment there is only one carer on (this floor) They are very short today.' It's not well organised if there is only one carer on duty for this length of time.'
One person said they did not like to call on staff as other people needed them more. They told us, 'I have to be logical and understanding, it I grossly unfair to take staff from someone who is poorly. I feel they are always in a rush.'
People commented they thought the staff were tired and had too much to do. One person said, 'They are always running around they have to make the time spread around us. They're all worn out.' Another person commented, 'The manager is very good but ever so busy. I think she has a bit too much to do.'
We asked people if they had opportunities to comment on how the home was run and what it was like for them living there. One person told us, 'I was asked if the food was good.'
