Ashwood Nursing Home is a care home which provides nursing and personal care for up to 47 older people. At the time of inspection there were 32 people living in the service. We found the following examples of good practice.
• Sufficient stocks of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) were in place including masks, gloves, aprons, hand sanitiser and visors. Staff were wearing this appropriately.
• Infection control polices reflected the current national guidance.
• People living in the service and staff were being tested regularly. This was to ensure if any
staff or people had contracted COVID-19 and were asymptomatic, this was identified and acted upon in a timely way.
• There was a clear procedure in place to ensure people were admitted to the service safely.
• A clear process was in place to ensure visitors were screened prior to them entering the service.
• Staff were provided with training in infection prevention and control. The training included modules about infection control, for example, how to put on and remove PPE safely.
• The provider had set up a visiting room to facilitate safe visits between people and their relatives.
• Technology was being used in conjunction with window and outdoor visits to ensure people and their relatives could see each other.
