During a routine inspection
During our visit to St Ann Dental Care we met with the practice manager and spoke with four members of staff. We spoke with three patients and looked at patient records.
All of the patients we spoke with were generally happy with the dental treatment they received. One said 'the dentist is very professional and good at what he does'. I have been seeing the hygienist regularly and I know my gums are in much better health now. I only have two places where I don't have a perfect score on the gum test now [basic periodontal examination for gum tissue]'.
Patients said they were involved in making decisions about their care and treatment and their consent was always sought before treatment commenced. One patient said 'they have always given me choice about what I have done and how I have it [the work done]'. We saw patients had a treatment plan which they signed as consent to the treatment and costs.
Patients we spoke with told us the practice was always clean and tidy, one said 'it's always been clean'. We found current infection control guidelines were followed to reduce the risk of infection.
Staff told us they were supported to carry out their roles. We saw staff received training specific to their job and received a regular appraisal.
The practice had systems in place to seek regular feedback from patients to enable them to improve the service it offered. The practice had carried out audits to monitor clinical quality and improve the service.
