Silver Court

Silver Court is a residential care home which provides accommodation and personal care for up to 42 people. At the time of the assessment, there were 40 people living at the service, most of whom were living with dementia, mental health conditions and/or age related frailties. We carried out our on-site assessment on 7 December 2023, off site assessment activity started on 11 December 2023 and ended on 15 December 2023. We looked at 5 quality statements; Safeguarding; Involving people to manage risks; Safe and effective staffing; Independence, choice and control and Equity in experiences and outcomes.

People were involved with planning their care and support which included taking positive risks. One person told us, they “tried to do what they could themselves, but felt alright about asking staff for help if they needed to.” People spoke highly of the support they received. People told us there were enough staff to support them, our observations confirmed this. Staff understood their duty to respond to, and report safeguarding concerns. People told us they felt safe, a person commented, “Very safe, the staff are all lovely, very kind.” People were engaged and stimulated. Activities and planned events were designed around people’s feedback. The service operated open visiting hours to suit the individual, we saw friends and family visiting in the service and going out with their loved ones. People went out regularly to cafes, the pub and for walks. Links with the local community meant school and nursery children would visit people. The provider’s newsletter showed various events involving the wider community. Care was person-centred, people were involved in their care planning, if appropriate, people’s family would further contribute. Where some people lacked mental capacity to make certain decisions, they were supported in the least restrictive way, within their best interests and in line with legislation. People were able to retain their independence and have choice and control over their lives. Dementia friendly signage helped people recognise communal spaces and their bedrooms. Staff described ways of how they respected people’s autonomy and we observed equipment, such as, bespoke wheelchairs which enabled people to have full access to indoor and outdoor spaces.
