Our view of the service
Springfield Grange is a care home providing personal and nursing care. The service can support up to 80 people. At the time of our assessment, 27 people were using the service. The assessment commenced on 20 August 2024 and was completed on 23 September 2024. This included 2 visits to the service on 20 August 2024 and 13 September 2024. We identified breaches of 2 regulations relating to person centred care and safe care and treatment. People’s care records were not always person centred and contained conflicting and contradictory information. Risks to people were not always assessed, managed and mitigated, including those related to nutrition. Medicines were not always managed safely, as time specific medicines were not always given as prescribed. The provider had processes in place to monitor and assess people’s needs, but they were not always used effectively. We have asked the provider for an action plan in response to the concerns found at this assessment.
People's experience of this service
People and their relatives felt the service was safe and there were enough staff, who were appropriately trained, to meet their needs. People and their relatives told us staff and management worked effectively with external professionals and were reactive to their needs. People and relatives spoke positively of the cleanliness of the service. For example, 1 person told us, “The staff help me when I ask them, they come in and clean my room all the time. I'm happy.” We received mixed feedback from people regarding their involvement in how the service assessed their needs. People and relatives told us staff were kind and treated them with respect. People told us they felt listened to and felt able to raise concerns should they need to. We received consistently positive feedback about how well staff knew people’s needs.
