Our view of the service
Date of Assessment: 7 May 2024 to 3 June 2024 Firbank House is a residential care home providing personal care to up 42 people across two separate buildings. The service provides support to older people. At the time of our inspection there were 32 people using the service. The inspection was prompted in part by notification of an incident following which a person using the service died. This incident is subject to a criminal investigation and as a result this inspection did not examine the circumstances of the incident. However, the information shared with CQC about the incident indicated potential concerns about the management of risk of falls. This inspection examined those risks. Since our last inspection we found that the improvements made had not been maintained. During this assessment we found the service is now in breach of two breaches of the regulations. These related to the safe management of medicines, care planning and governance of the service to drive improvements.
People's experience of this service
People spoke positively about staff at the service. Some people told there were periods of time when they had to wait for staff support. People gave positive feedback about the registered manager. People felt they could discuss concerns with the registered manager and action would be taken. However, it was not always clear that robust action was taken to ensure people’s needs were met and risk was mitigated as much as possible. We received positive feedback from professionals around the support being provided for someone who had recently moved into the service.
