We looked at 2 quality statements in this domain. Staff said they enjoyed working at the home, felt well supported in their role and had the training they needed. They felt able to raise any issues or concerns with the registered manager if they needed to and said they would be listened to. A recent staff survey was seen to be positive. Staff said communication within the team was good. Staff meetings were occasionally held. A governance system was in place. Audits were delegated to the deputy managers and senior care staff. The registered manager then reviewed these to make sure actions identified had been completed. However, the issues we found, for example some care plans not containing sufficient details to guide staff, had not been identified in the audits. The registered manager took immediate action to address the issues we found. Feedback we received from the local authority was positive about the home. The registered manager had acted upon any recommendations made by the local authority.

A recent staff survey was very positive about working at the home and the management team.

Tasks had been allocated to each deputy manager and seniors, for example writing the rotas, checking PPE, re-ordering medicines and reviewing care plans. The registered manager then checked to ensure these tasks had been completed and any issues identified had been actioned.

Governance, management and sustainability

Score: 2

Staff said the management team were supportive and communication was good. Supervisions and staff meetings were held. The registered manager had actioned the feedback provided during the assessment.

A range of audits and checks were completed, but these were not always robust. Any issues identified in the audits were actioned in a timely way. However, issues found during this assessment had not been identified by these audits. For example, new care planning records had been developed which allowed care plans to be more succinct, but they lacked important information and evidence the person and their representatives had been involved in agreeing them. Strategies to support people if they became agitated had not been developed after incident records had been reviewed. Medicines records did not always contain all the information required. Prompt action was taken when we discussed our findings with the registered manager. We received positive feedback form the local authority commissioning team about the registered manager and the home.
