Our view of the service
Date of assessment 2 April to 5 April 2024. Baskind Health provides a range of services including assessment and medication treatment for adults with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). The service is run by an independent consultant psychiatrist who provides private services in Leeds. The service is registered to provide treatment of disease, disorder or injury. This was the first assessment of this service, so we looked at all the quality statements. At the time of our assessment, the service employed a consultant psychiatrist and a specialist nurse. The consultant psychiatrist was the registered manager and registered provider. Throughout the report, we will refer to the consultant psychiatrist as ‘the provider.’ Staff had training in key skills, understood how to protect patients from abuse, and managed safety well. The provider assessed risks to patients, acted on them and kept good care records. The service was holistic and provided both psychological and pharmacological treatment options in line with best practice. Staff treated patients with compassion, empathy and kindness and respected their privacy and dignity. The service made reasonable adjustments and patients could attend the service either in person or virtually. The service worked with partners to ensure patients could move to shared care when this was available and what they wanted. Shared care for ADHD involved an agreement between a patent, the specialist ADHD psychiatrist, and the GP. The care and treatment are shared between the psychiatrist and the GP. The GP may issue prescriptions through the NHS. However, medication for ADHD can only be started by a specialist trained in the diagnosis and assessment of ADHD. There were effective governance processes which ensured that procedures relating to the work of the service ran smoothly. The provider was focused on the needs of patients receiving care and was committed to the continuous improvement of services.
