Responsive
Staff supported people to understand their human rights and to remove barriers to ensure people were treated with equality and respect. Staff understood people’s communication needs to ensure their views were listened to and acted on. Managers allocated resources to ensure the rights of people from disadvantaged groups were protected. The provider’s policies set out the legal framework of how they would equally support people to achieve their desired outcomes.

Equity in experiences and outcomes
People's relatives were positive about the support and care their family member received. They told us they were regularly involved in decisions about their care and had regular review meetings with staff. They said comments such as "It’s been fantastic……They liaise with me around anything medical. Every fortnight there is an internal review. Communication is brilliant."
Staff were aware of the importance of treating and supporting people as individuals and respecting their choices. They spoke genuinely about ensuring people felt safe to live a life of their choice without discrimination. Staff encouraged people to overcome barriers at their own pace to experience different opportunities and activities which would benefit their health and social well-being. The registered manager provided examples of supporting people who were funded from other local authorities to have regular reviews and have equal access to services within Gloucestershire.
The registered manager was aware of their role to prevent inequality for people who were supported in the service. They supported people to understand their human rights and to express their opinions using different communication methods. The provider's policies and processes promoted equality and helped to protect people's human rights. Systems were in place to ensure people were supported to maintain links with family, friends, and professionals. They were supported to access their own community, such as communities linked to their culture, religion or LGBT + groups. The provider had supported people to understand the importance of doing body checks, maintaining a healthy diet and raising any concerns about their own health. People were involved in the recruitment of new staff to help ensure they were compatible and could meet their needs. Their views and wishes helped to shape staff’s working patterns to ensure they were appropriately supported by enough staff at the right time to live a life of their choice.
