Our view of the service

Date of assessment 18 June to 22 July 2024 This was the first inspection for this newly rated service. We assessed all quality statements under the five key questions of Safe, Effective, Caring, Responsive and Well Led as good. We found the service provided high quality person-centred care which met people’s individual needs. People were supported to live fulfilling lives and staff supported people to partake in meaningful activity. Staff were seen to be kind and considerate to people using this service. Records relating to people’s care and support were detailed and person centred. Staff recruitment processes were robust, and staff had received training relevant to their role. Records relating to the management of this service were detailed and consideration had gone into the analysis of accidents and incidents to help reduce future risks to people. People were safeguarded from the risk of abuse and the environment had been adapted to meet people’s specific needs. People were supported to have maximum choice and control of their lives and staff supported them in the least restrictive way possible and in their best interests; the policies and systems in the service supported this practice. We have assessed the service against ‘Right support, right care, right culture’ guidance to make judgements about whether the provider guaranteed people with a learning disability and autistic people respect, equality, dignity, choices, independence and good access to local communities that most people take for granted.

People's experience of this service

People and their relatives spoke positively of the care and support they received. People told us they felt safe, and relatives felt their loved ones were well supported by staff who knew them well. People and their relatives praised the staff team. One relative said, “The staff are very kind and caring, I couldn’t ask for more.” People and their relatives felt comfortable raising concerns if required. People told us who they would inform should they have any worries. People told us they were encouraged to make their own choices and relatives felt meaningful activity was provided. One relative said, “They attend arts and crafts classes which is what they wanted to do.” People were supported by sufficient numbers of trained and competent staff who were recruited safely to meet their needs. People were protected from the risk of abuse and felt safe living at this service. People told us they had a choice, and their independence was promoted. People told us they were encouraged to undertake meaningful activity to promote an active lifestyle. We observed positive interactions between staff and people using this service during our site visit. Although relatives spoke positively of the care their loved ones received, some concerns were raised in relation to accessing their loves one’s care records. However, the registered manager was following people’s wishes in relation to information sharing.
