During a themed inspection looking at Offender Healthcare
Nurse practitioners offered people consultations, a range of health checks, treatment and advice according to their needs. Records confirmed that consultations were consistently structured and that people were prescribed appropriate treatments. The service was not required to provide care to people in a medical emergency. However, we found that nurse practitioners had provided support and advice to other healthcare staff on such occasions.
Staff received support to enable them to undertake their role and to develop their skills and knowledge. There were arrangements in place to ensure that staff received the training, supervision and development opportunities that they required.
