Condition of this registration relating to carrying out this regulated activity
The provider must carry out a review of staff knowledge and all practices at the location in relation to adhering to the principles of the Mental Capacity Act (2005). This includes, but is not limited to, the following:
a) Completion of records related to mental capacity assessments and best interest decisions.
b) The blanket application of sensor mats.
c) The blanket application of keypad codes on entry and exit points of the location.
Within 14 days after this condition comes into effect the registered provider must send the Care Quality Commission an action plan/written report confirming progress made with these conditions. After submission of the first action plan/written report the registered provider must send a report on the first Monday of the month to the Care Quality Commission detailing progress made in relation to the concerns identified, outstanding action, who will be responsible for them and timescales for completion.
Within 14 days of this condition taking effect, the registered provider must implement an effective monthly audit and monitoring system to ensure that:
a) All individual accidents and incident forms are analysed and reviewed to detail the risks identified, how these risks will be mitigated, and the lessons learnt to reduce the risk of reoccurrence.
b) The audit must ensure this learning is shared with all staff and incorporated into the relevant service user’s care planning and risk management records.
c) The audit must review all incidents to identify any emerging themes and trends and any potential shortfalls in the safety of the service.
d) The audit must ensure all service users have their care needs and wishes assessed and detailed within a written care plan by a person who has the appropriate skills. These records must include information to set out how staff should meet each service user’s individual care needs.
e) Any risk to service users from their diet, due to choking, or maintaining adequate nutrition must be identified and action taken to mitigate these risks.
f) Staff members recruitment files are complete and risks in the staff members employment are mitigated.
g) Shortfalls in staff training needs are identified and actioned to ensure staff have the skills and competencies to support service users with their needs.
Terms of this registration relating to carrying out this regulated activity
The registered provider must not provide nursing care under accommodation for persons who require personal or nursing care at Cherry Lodge.
The registered provider must only accommodate a maximum of 46 service users at Cherry Lodge.
