Date of assessment: 21 January 2025 to 31 January 2025. Willows Care Southern Limited is a residential care home supporting older people who may be living with dementia. This is the first comprehensive assessment since the service was registered with us under this provider. Potential risks to people’s health and welfare had been assessed and there was guidance for staff to mitigate the risks. There were enough staff to meet people’s needs, who had been recruited safely and had received training and supervision appropriate to their role. The provider visited the service regularly and involved staff in discussions about improvements. Staff told us they felt involved, supported to speak up and be involved in the service. People received their medicines as prescribed, staff worked with professionals to make sure their health needs were met. Staff understood how to support people to make decisions, and these were respected. When people had been assessed as not being able to make their own decisions, staff followed the Mental Capacity Act 2005, to make decisions about people’s care. Staff understood their role to protect people from discrimination and abuse. The management team had oversight of the service and completed regular audits to monitor the quality of the service. When shortfalls were identified action had been taken to rectify these.

People's experience of the service

Updated 9 January 2025

People were supported to be as independent as possible. People and their relatives had been involved in managing risks and making decisions about their care. People’s care plans were person centred and had been reviewed regularly, they had been changed and updated when needed. Relatives told us their loved ones were supported by regular staff who knew them well. We observed staff spending time supporting and explaining things to people, to help them feel less anxious. People were given information in the way they could understand including pictorial. Relatives told us people were referred to health professionals when needed and staff followed the guidance provided.
