During a routine inspection

This service provided care and support to one person living with a learning disability. Care is provided from within the individual's home environment. Due to the limited communication skills and complex needs of the person who used this service it was not possible to ascertain their views. However, we observed the person who appeared well, happy and responded positively to staff interactions with them.

During our inspection we spoke with a member of staff and the registered provider. They explained the staffing arrangements and we saw that one to one staff cover was provided throughout the 24-hour period, seven days a week.

We looked at the care records of the person who used the service. Care records viewed were recorded in a person centred way and contained comprehensive information about their health and care support needs.

We looked at how the service provided for the nutritional needs of the person who used the service. We saw that their likes and dislikes were assessed and their choice provided for.

As part of our inspection we looked at how information in medication administration records supported the safe handling of their medicines. We found that in the main suitable arrangements were in place.

During a routine inspection

We used a number of different methods to help us understand the experience of the person using the service, because the person using the service had complex needs which meant they were not able to tell us their experiences. We spoke to the relatives of the person and staff caring for the person. We also saw reports produced by an independent advocate.

We saw a care plan which identified the needs of the individual and the actions for dealing with these. This ensured that the individual's needs were identified and understood by those providing the care.

We saw risk assessments relevant to the individual and those working for the provider. This ensured risk were identified and addressed.
