Our view of the service
We carried out this off-site, announced assessment on 27 August 2024. Where we carry out an offsite assessment, we undertake a detailed review of the practice risk assessments, policies, staff records and other relevant documents. We gather feedback from patients, staff and stakeholders (where relevant). We carry out a remote visual assessment of the premises and have discussions with staff. We found the practice had met regulations. The practice had systems to manage risks. Recruitment procedures reflected current legislation. Infection control procedures followed published guidance. Patients’ care and treatment was provided in line with current guidance. Patients were treated with dignity and respect. At the time of our assessment, patients could access care, support and treatment when required. There was effective leadership and a culture of continuous improvement. Scarsdale Dental Clinic is part of PortmanDentex a dental group provider. The practice is in the London Borough of Kensington and Chelsea and provides private dental care and treatment for adults and children. At the time of our assessment, the dental team included 4 dentists, 1 dental nurse, 1 trainee dental nurse, 1 dental hygienist, 1 receptionist and a practice manager. During the assessment we spoke with 2 dentists, 1 dental hygienist, 1 dental nurse, and the practice manager. We also spoke with one of the organisations safety and compliance leads.
People's experience of this service
Two weeks before our visit, we asked the practice to encourage patients to share their views of the service with us. We did not receive feedback from patients. We reviewed patient feedback gathered by the practice and online feedback. This feedback provided a positive view of the dental team and care provided by the practice. Comments included: ‘staff were warm, friendly and supportive’, ‘Calming atmosphere’, ‘staff made me feel very much at ease’. Patients were confident that the practice was clean and hygienic. Patients said that they were treated as an individual and that staff took time to understand their needs. They said their confidentiality was always preserved. Patients felt involved in decisions about their care. They said that treatment options were explained to them in a way that they could understand and they were given clear information to help them make an informed choice about their treatment and any associated costs. Patients were supported to maintain their oral health and were provided with appropriate information that they could understand around their oral care. Patients said the cost of their treatments was always explained and they felt their treatment was good value for money. At the time of our assessment, the patients felt there were enough staff working at the practice. They were able to book appointments when needed. Patients could access care and treatment from the practice within an acceptable timescale for their needs. They had enough time during their appointment and did not feel rushed.
