During an assessment under our new approach

We carried out this on-site announced assessment on 22 October 2024. We found the practice had met regulations. Recruitment procedures reflected current legislation and there was effective leadership and a culture of continuous improvement. Patients were treated with dignity and respect and at the time of our assessment, could access care, support and treatment when required. Patients’ care and treatment was provided in line with current guidance and infection control procedures were in place. The practice had systems to manage risks. The practice is in Water Orton, Warwickshire and provides NHS and private dental care and treatment for adults and children. There was step free access to the practice and car parking spaces, including dedicated parking for disabled people, were available near the practice. The practice had 3 treatment rooms. During the assessment we spoke with 4 dentists including the provider and a foundation dentist, 4 dental nurses including 2 trainee dental nurses, 1 receptionist, the practice manager and the assistant practice manager.

During a routine inspection

During our inspection of Water Orton Dental Centre we spoke with five people who used the service by telephone following our visit. We did this so we could gain their experiences of the service they received.

The practice was welcoming and people we spoke with felt that they were treated in a considerate and respectful way. Several people made a point of commenting that the staff were always polite and friendly. One person said, 'I am made very welcome by pleasant staff and the dentist.'

People's treatment was planned and discussed with them and based on their assessed needs. People told us they were given information about their treatment and the cost of this. One person told us, 'The whole process was explained to me, I knew what treatment to have and how much it would cost.'

The practice was clean and hygienic when we visited and people we spoke wth confirmed that this was their experience too. We saw that there were suitable arrangements for the cleaning, sterilising and storing of instruments. Staff were able to describe these procedures to us confidently.

People we spoke with knew how to complain but had never had cause to do so. They told us they would speak to the dentist if they were unhappy with anything. One person commented, 'I'd speak up if I was unhappy about the service, but it is a first class service as far as I am concerned.' Another person told us, "I have no concerns, I can't speak highly enough of the dentist and all the staff."
