During a routine inspection
We observed that patients were given a pleasant welcome and spoken to with politeness and respect by staff on reception. People's details were confirmed on arrival. We heard staff offer people who used the service a range of times and dates for follow up appointments.
We spoke with four patients during the inspection. Comments included: "I've been with [the dentist] nearly 40 years'. 'They are really good, the best'. And: 'They give you plenty of information'.
We looked at records, which were all stored electronically, although the signed consent forms were retained in paper format. We found the records were up to date and detailed. Medical history; treatment plans and personal preferences were regularly reviewed and updated.
We saw that policies and procedures were accessible to staff in the practice manager's office with emergency medical equipment which was all in date. Other emergency equipment was available in the surgeries.
Decontamination processes were seen to be followed and hygiene procedures were adhered to by staff, to minimise the risk of cross infection.
We saw that comments and complaints were taken seriously and used to make improvements to the service delivered.
