During a routine inspection

When we visited the practice we spoke with the registered manager who was the dentist and two other staff on duty. We toured the premises and looked at records relating to the running of the practice. We spoke to nine people who used the service, either in the waiting room or by telephone.

People told us that they were happy with the service. People told us they were given information about their care and treatment, were involved in decisions about their treatment and found they were treated with respect and kindness. 'I am very pleased with them,' one person told us.

This practice was a satellite to the main branch in Barnstaple. One person said, 'My dentist is only in Holsworthy one day per week, but I can see another dentist if I have an emergency, or go to Barnstaple if I need an appointment on a different day.'

We found the practice was well run. People told us that the staff were friendly and helpful. We found they were well prepared to provide for people's welfare and safety.

The team had received training in protecting children and safeguarding vulnerable adults and knew what to watch for and what to do if they had concerns.

The practice was clean and tidy and suitable procedures were in place to clean instruments needed for treatment. There were splits in the surfaces of dental chairs in both treatment rooms, which meant they could not be kept entirely clean. The registered manager undertook to provide new covers and seal the crack in one base.
