During a routine inspection
The dentist told us care was delivered in line with people's individual needs. An examination and full medical history was always carried out for all new patients to find out the cause or reason for their visit. X-rays would be taken and discussed with the person along with treatment options.
There were effective systems in place to reduce the risk and spread of infection. There was an infection control policy which covered hand hygiene. On the day of our inspection the surgery was clean and well maintained. Staff had received recent infection control training in May 2013. Staff we spoke with demonstrated a good knowledge of infection control measures including decontamination.
The dentists and dental nurses were registered with their professional bodies. We saw individual staff files with evidence of their continuing professional development (CPD).
There was a complaints procedure that outlined how people could complain and how the practice would deal with the complaint. Timescales for acknowledging the complaint and responding to the complaint were set out in the procedure.
