During a routine inspection
We saw that people's records were held in a paper format and contained details of people's treatment options and treatment plans. The person we spoke with confirmed that the dentist always checked their medical history at the start of any treatment plans. They told us, 'It is a warm and friendly practice. I am satisfied with the care I receive here.' The practice facilities were clean and well maintained with appropriate floor and surface coverings and there was suitable decontamination procedures adhered to. We found that staff received appropriate professional development and were able to obtain further qualifications. Staff told us that they had on going formal supervision and appraisal on a two yearly basis. They confirmed to us that they felt they could discuss anything with the dentist without going through a formal system.
We found that the practice did have a system in place which enabled them to regularly assess and monitor the quality of service that people received. We found that audits had been undertaken regarding hygienist referrals, hand washing and infection control, providing written estimates for people, completion of care records, medical histories and consent. All audits were recorded and any problems identified were supported by actions.
