We spoke with five people and asked them for their views about the care and treatment they received. They said they were happy with the care and treatment received. One person said: 'I've been coming here for 26 years and so do the children; he (the dentist) really cares about his patients.' People were consulted about the treatment options and made informed decisions and felt they were well informed about the health of their teeth and gums. Records viewed confirmed the consent was obtained, treatment agreed and treatment plan was in place.
People told us they were happy with the hygiene and cleanliness of the waiting area and the treatment rooms. One person said: 'It's very clean and she (the dentist) is thorough.' Discussion and observation of staff showed there were effective systems in place to reduce the risk and spread of infection. The infection prevention and decontamination policies were up to date and responsibilities were clearly defined.
There were effective recruitment processes in place, which ensured suitably qualified staff were employed. Discussion with staff and review of records showed staff accessed training to maintain their continuous professional development.
The provider did not have effective systems in place to assess and monitor the quality of service provision. Improvements were needed with regards to timely review and action to feedback and better use of the audit systems to assess and monitor the quality of service provision.
