Our view of the service
Date of assessment 5 February to 20 February 2024 We undertook a responsive assessment in relation to concerns about the service. We assessed a total of 4 quality statements from the safe and well-led key questions and found areas of concern. We will carry out future assessments to cover other parts of the Framework and will update our website with our findings. Abi-Support Ltd is a domiciliary care agency. It provides care to adults with a range of support needs. At the time of our assessment we were informed 35 people were receiving the regulated activity of personal care from the service. We looked at how Abi-Support Ltd assessed and planned people's care needs, and how they recruited and trained staff to support people according to their needs and preferences. People did not raise any concerns about staff. The assessment of the 4 quality statements indicated concerns around the safe recruitment of staff as not all mandatory background checks had been carried out before staff commenced working. This is a breach relating to ensuring only fit and proper staff are employed. This meant people could be at risk of harm. Audits had not always identified missing, incorrect or conflicting information found in people's care plans. The Provider Information Return requested had not been returned to Care Quality Commission. People and their relatives did not have any concerns in respect of care staff. However, staff did not always feel they had the adequate training to meet people’s needs safely. The provider’s quality assurance systems had had not identified the concerns leading to the breach of regulations. We have asked the provider for an action plan in response to the concerns found at this assessment.
