During a routine inspection
We spoke by telephone to seven people who attend Euston Place Dental Practice. They were all positive about the service they receive. Some had been going to the practice for a long time. They told us, 'My dentist and nurse are outstanding, they are very professional,' and 'Everyone is very welcoming and courteous.'
We asked people about the availability of appointments and if they had to wait over their appointment time to be seen. People told us; 'I never have to wait, I am always seen within five minutes' and 'I always get seen on time.'
Several people made a point of commenting that the team was polite and friendly and one person said they appreciated that the staff knew them by name. One person told us that,'the reception staff are wonderful,' They added that they have noticed other people being dealt with politely too. Several people said they thought it was a professional practice and had recommended it to their relatives and friends.
We asked people if they had ever had to make a complaint. People we spoke with said they would speak to the dentist if they were unhappy with anything, but had never had cause to do this. One person told us, 'No, I'm very lucky to have such a well run dental practice, I feel very fortunate.'
We undertook a tour of the practice; looked at systems in place and asked people about the cleanliness and hygiene practices.
People we spoke with said everything always looked clean and that there were good standards of personal hygiene. One person said, 'It's spotless.'
We asked how people received treatment as an emergency. The dentist explained that he held a slot for emergency appointments but they allowed people to come in whenever they needed, on the understanding that they had to wait.
Staff spoken with told us that they were very happy working at the practice and that they felt they received a good level of training and support from the dentists and practice manager and said that they were "very approachable."
Staff told us there was always a sufficient supply of gloves, aprons, hand wash, gels and other items required to ensure good standards of care. They told us that they had attended training in the decontamination of equipment and infection control. Staff said they felt confident with the procedures and said that there was additional guidance to follow if needed. Staff were able to show us the decontamination process and describe how the equipment was monitored to ensure it was working efficiently.
