Our view of the service

We had undertaken a comprehensive inspection of Great Northern Road Dental Clinic on 11 December 2023 under Section 60 of the Health and Social Care Act 2008 as part of our regulatory functions. This inspection had been undertaken using our previous methodology. We found the registered provider was not providing safe, effective or well-led care and was in breach of regulations 17, 18 and 19 of the Health and Social Care Act 2008 (Regulated Activities) Regulations 2014. We undertook a follow up focused assessment on 21 May 2024. This assessment was carried out to review the actions taken by the registered provider to improve the quality of care and to confirm that the practice was now meeting legal requirements. The provider had made improvements in relation to the regulatory breaches we found at our inspection on 11 December 2023: Infection control procedures followed published guidance. The practice had improved systems for governance and for managing risks. Recruitment procedures reflected current legislation. Great Northern Road Dental Clinic is in Dunstable and provides NHS and private dental care and treatment for adults and children. There is step free access to the practice for people who use wheelchairs and those with pushchairs with the use of a ramp. Car parking spaces are available near the practice. The practice has made reasonable adjustments to support patients with access requirements. At the time of our assessment, the dental team includes 4 dentists, 1 orthodontist, 4 dental nurses, 1 trainee dental nurse, 2 dental hygienists, 1 practice manager and 2 receptionists. The practice has 5 treatment rooms. During the inspection we spoke with 2 dentists, 1 of whom was also the owner, 1 dental nurse and the practice manager.

People's experience of this service

On the day of inspection, we spoke with patients who told us that staff were kind and caring. They told us they were happy with the level of cleanliness.
