During a check to make sure that the improvements required had been made

We found that the provider had taken suitable action since the last inspection to ensure that they had satisfactory arrangements in place to safeguard children and vulnerable adults. New protocols and policies had been written and staff had received training to enable them to protect children and vulnerable adults from abuse.

We were satisfied that suitable and effective system had been put in place to ensure adequate infection control. Regular checks and audits had been arranged for various elements of their infection control processes.

New arrangements had been put in place to manage any compliant the service might receive.

There were recruitment procedures in place that ensured new staff would be recruited in a manner to ensure they were suitable and that people were protected from unsuitable staff.

During a routine inspection

During our inspection we observed the dentist, the dental nurse and the reception staff being very polite and respectful to each person as they arrived and when they saw the dentist in the treatment room.

Care and treatment records showed the treatment that people had received each time they had attended the dentist.

The provider had not taken suitable steps to ensure that there were safeguarding arrangements in place to protect children and vulnerable adults from abuse.

Infection control processes were achieving Department of Health (DoH) expectations of 'essential standards'. However there was not an infection control policy or any protocols in place to show that the dentist was following the DoH published infection control guidelines. .

The premises looked visibly clean and reasonable well maintained, although there was one significant trip hazard in the decontamination room.

There were not any systems in place for the effective monitoring, or self-auditing of infection control, or for safeguarding people from abuse, or for staff recruitment, or for responding to any complaints.
