During an inspection looking at part of the service

This inspection was carried out to ensure that measures had been put in place to store medicines securely, and to record stocks of local anaesthetic held at the practice.

We found that the provider now stored medicines securely, by fitting a key coded access lock to the room where medicines were stored. This meant that only staff with the security code could access this room. We reviewed records held in relation to the stock of anaesthetic within the practice. These were up to date and accurately recorded how much stock of anaesthetic was immediately available to dental practitioners. This meant that practitioners would know if they could meet the needs of any patients requiring emergency treatment, which required the use of anaesthetic.

During a routine inspection

The dental practice is purpose built, and operates from within a large supermarket, offering a range of dental services across hours outside of those generally found at high street dental practices, including weekends. When we visited the practice, we spoke with staff and were able to talk with a person receiving treatment. Staff we spoke with were all qualified for the work they undertook, and had areas of specialism, for example implantation work. Staff told us they enjoy the variety of patients they treat. One member of staff we spoke with explained that they may work out of different stores, depending on the needs of the patient, and said they were glad that the service could be flexible in order to meet individual needs.

We asked a person who had received treatment, how they had found the service. They told us "I find it really convenient, the staff are lovely and I'm really happy with the work they do. They explain everything clearly and I know what I have to pay and when payment is due. I can't fault the service."

On inspection, we found the environment to be quiet, very clean and tidy, and the staff approachable and friendly.
