During a routine inspection
In the patient records examined we saw that dentists always discussed treatment options and any associated costs with patients. Patients told us any treatments, along with risks, benefits and options, were always explained fully by the dentists. Patients gave consent before receiving any treatment.
All areas of the practice looked clean and well-maintained. This was confirmed by the patient we spoke with. One of them said 'It's always spotless.' However, the steps to the first floor treatment room were steep and space in the waiting room, decontamination room and one treatment room was limited, making it difficult to manoeuvre when using the service.
Staff used protective equipment such as gloves and masks and patients wore eye protectors and an apron during treatments.
Staff we spoke with told us High Street Dental Practice was a good place to work and they felt confident the service provided to patients was good. We saw that staff received training appropriate to their role.
The three patients we spoke with were very happy with the service provided. Comments included:-
'Staff are always friendly and helpful; they fit me in no problem.'
'The premises could be better; they are a bit small and the disabled access is not good.'
'I'm quite happy with the service I get there. You don't feel rushed and it's very relaxed.'
