During a check to make sure that the improvements required had been made

Orthoworld 2000 Blackpool was non-compliant to outcome 7 at our last inspection. This was because the people who used the service were not always protected from the risk of abuse. Staff did not have Mental Capacity Act training. Additionally, the provider had not taken Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) checks on some people. A risk assessment to identify who required a CRB was not available.

The provider completed an action plan that demonstrated how Orthoworld intended to address their non-compliance. This highlighted having a copy of the Mental Capacity Act Code of Conduct available to all staff. The practice also planned to train staff in this area and to obtain CRB checks for all staff.

Further submitted evidence demonstrated that staff had since received training in Mental Capacity. The relevant Code of Conduct was available and staff had received guidance about this.

We had additionally been provided with evidence that all staff underwent CRB checks. We had been supplied with the relevant disclosure numbers related to those checks.

During a routine inspection

We spoke with four people about their experiences whilst visiting the dental practice. Without exception we were told that the staff team were polite, friendly and that people were treated sensitively and with respect. People said they were provided with good information about the cost of different treatments and realistic expectations of the procedures they were having. One person told us, 'They were very clear about the cost prior to the treatment starting. They explained everything in a very good way'.

People spoke very highly of the staff and expressed satisfaction with their treatment and care. Comments included, 'They were very clear about the treatment time scale and I am so happy with the results'. 'I am very pleased with the treatment I have had, you are never rushed and they take their time with you'. People we spoke with told us that they felt safe when care and treatment was being delivered. One person said, 'I always feel very, very safe and comfortable when coming here. I have never had any complaints or concerns".

We noted that the dental practice appeared clean and well maintained. Patients we spoke with all said that the practice was always clean and tidy with one person saying, "The place is always very clean, if it wasn't I would not go".

People spoke very positively of the staff team, with one person saying. 'They treat everybody really nicely, always smiling and welcoming'. I feel very comfortable when I come and I am so happy with the results'.
