During a routine inspection
In the treatment room we observed that the provider discussed the medical history with the patient and a system was seen to be in place for flagging up a medical alert. This meant that the staff were aware of any relevant medical information that may affect the patient's treatment. We observed a patient journey through the practice. This followed the patient from their arrival at reception to the treatment room and back to reception. Good professionalism and communication was evidenced between all staff and patients.
We observed the practice was clean and well maintained and this was confirmed by the patients we interviewed. The provider showed us the decontamination cycle. The unit was meeting essential requirements national guidance and had plans in place to meet best practice.
We spoke with two members of staff who confirmed that they had their learning needs identified and that there was enough training provided for them. Patient's personal records including medical records were accurate and fit for purpose. We saw evidence of a regular record card audit to check that the right information was being recorded. We saw records which showed the practice compliant with all current legislation.
