During an inspection looking at part of the service
We examined cleanliness and infection control in conjunction with the Department of Health 'Health Technical Memorandum 01-05: decontamination in primary care dental practices' (HTM01-05).
The provider had facilities to ensure the decontamination process of used dental instruments was in line with guidance from HTM01-05. There was a dedicated decontamination room to clean 'dirty' instruments and a separate room to sterilise and bag instruments prior to storage. These facilities enabled a 'dirty' to 'clean' workflow and lowered the risk of used instruments coming into contact with decontaminated instruments.
The two dental surgeries were well lit, clean, tidy and uncluttered which aided cleaning and the accumulation o dust.
The provider maintained acurate records of the equipment checks required to demonstrate the decontamination process was effective
