Condition of this registration relating to carrying out this regulated activity
The Registered Provider must ensure monthly audits are completed in relation to care plans and risk assessments. These should provide assurances that: a) service users’ health and support needs are recorded accurately in one format, are up to date and that all staff know where they are; b) that a system is developed to ensure staff read plans and know about all changes.
The Registered Provider must carry out a monthly audit of service users at risk of weight loss, so prompt action can be taken when required, and to ensure care records are reflective of service users current support needs.
The Registered Provider must ensure monthly audits are completed in relation to staff training. These should provide assurances that: a) staff are trained in subjects the Registered Provider has deemed as mandatory; b) staff are trained in subjects applicable to service users’ individual needs.
The Registered Provider must use a staffing dependency tool to determine and ensure sufficient numbers of staff are deployed to meet service users’ needs safely.
The Registered Provider must, on at least a monthly basis, ask all service users for their views regarding the quality of meals. This should be recorded and, where needed, action should be taken to improve the standard of meals provided.
The Registered Provider must ensure that service user’s preferences in relation to their nutritional likes and dislikes are known and adhered to.
The Registered Provider must ensure that the provision of social activities is tailored to service users’ individual needs, each week. The Registered Provider, on at least a monthly basis, must ask all service users for their view’s regarding social provision. This should be recorded and, where needed, action should be taken to make improvements.
The Registered Provider must send to the Care Quality Commission a monthly report on the 1st working day of each calendar month, detailing the findings and actions taken for points 1 to 7 above. The report must include who is responsible for any actions identified and include time scales to be met. The first report must be sent to the Care Quality Commission on the 01 November 2019.
The Registered Provider must undertake a review of the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at The Firs Residential Home to ensure that PPE is being used in line with current UK government guidance COVID-19: how to work safely in care homes to prevent and control the spread of Covid-19. By 18 December 2020 the registered provider must submit a report to CQC detailing what action has been taken as a result of this review. The report must set out any situations where COVID-19: how to work safely in care homes is not being followed and the measures in place as a result, to prevent and control the spread of Covid-19.
The Registered Provider must ensure that by 18 December 2020 a cleaning schedule is implemented to prevent and control the spread of Covid-19 at The Firs, including evidence of regular cleaning of frequently touched points, such as hand rails, and door handles and appropriate cleaning products in use in line with current UK government guidance COVID 19 Cleaning in non-healthcare settings outside the home. The Registered Provider must ensure there are enough staff on duty to carry out the tasks as required by the cleaning schedule. This should include contingency plans for covering members of domestic staff in their absence.

The Registered Provider must not provide nursing care under Accommodation for persons who require personal or nursing care at The Firs Residential Home.
The Registered Provider must only Accommodate a maximum of 38 service users at The Firs Residential Home.
