Our current view of the service

Requires improvement

Updated 3 October 2024

Date of assessment 6 November 2024 to 3 December 2024. Bramcote Hills is a ‘care home’ providing nursing and personal care and support to older people and people living with dementia. At the time of the assessment, the service was supporting 35 people with their personal care needs. Bramcote Hills was last rated inadequate (published 9 October 2024). We assessed a total of 24 quality statements from the safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led key questions and found areas of concern. The scores for these areas have been combined with scores based on the key question ratings from the last inspection. Though the assessment of these 24 quality statements indicated areas of good practice since the last inspection, our overall rating requires improvement. We have identified 3 breaches of the legal regulation in relation to safe care and treatment, need for consent and governance. Staff did not consistently protect people from improper treatment. Staff did not always assess risks to people’s health and safety or mitigate them where identified. People did not always have care plans to guide safe practice. Governance systems and audits were not effective in identifying or addressing areas for improvement. However, there were enough staff to ensure people’s safety and meet their needs. People were supported to have choice and control and could give feedback on their care. We have asked the provider for an action plan in response to the concerns found at this assessment. The service has been in special measures since 4 July 2024. The provider demonstrated improvements that have been made. The service is no longer rated inadequate overall or in any of the key questions. Therefore, this service is no longer in Special measures.

People's experience of the service

Updated 3 October 2024

People told us improvements had been made and the home felt better. People told us there was enough staff to support people. People felt safe and told us they would report their concerns to staff. People were aware the management had changed. People told us they were not involved in their care plan and had not been given the opportunity to be involved. Care records continued to not accurately reflect people’s needs and there was no opportunity provided for people and their relatives to be involved in their assessment and management of risks, the development of care plans or in reviews of their care. People’s medicines were not always managed safely.
