During a check to make sure that the improvements required had been made

When we visited Pomeroy and Rust Dental Practice in January 2014 we found there was guidance for staff regarding child protection procedures but not for safeguarding vulnerable adults. We asked the provider to send us evidence to demonstrate they had taken action to address the issues we found.

The provider sent us a range of written information and we spoke with staff to confirm they had addressed the issues we identified previously. We saw the provider had taken appropriate action to meet the requirements of safeguarding vulnerable adults.

During a routine inspection

When we visited Pomeroy and Rust Dental Practice we spoke to five patients, two dentists, a hygienist, two dental nurses and a receptionist. We looked at treatment plans and found that there was a detailed record of completed dental assessments and treatment options discussed with the patient. Patients were pleased with the care and treatment they had received and found the staff friendly and polite. Patients told us, "the dentist is very good he took time to explain everything", "I am very happy with the treatment" and "I think its great here I am very pleased with the treatment".

The practice was clean throughout and staff had followed the decontamination procedures to help protect patients' from infection. There was guidance for staff regarding child protection procedures but not for safeguarding vulnerable adults. We found that quality monitoring audits had been completed to ensure that systems were effective.
