During a routine inspection
We saw the refurbishment programme that was currently being implemented. The rooms that had already been redecorated were greatly improved. The activities co-ordinator had been establishing activities suitable for each person who used the service. Meal times had been revised to make sure people were encouraged to sit in the dining room and new menus had been introduced.
We did speak to one person who used the service and they told us "I like everything here, I have enough to keep me occupied and the staff are very kind to me". We also spoke to two sets of relatives. One relative told us "my wife was very unsettled at first, but now she is much happier. I am happy with the care she is getting". Another relative told us "I am happy that my grandmother is here, it's a nice place and the staff always call if there are any problems".
We also saw evidence where staff had not followed people's care plans and poor moving handling practices amongst some staff. We also saw evidence where safeguarding procedures had not been followed. The provider's quality monitoring processes were not robust enough to identify the concerns we found during our inspection. Where they had picked up concerns we saw no evidence that these had been resolved.
