Oak Way House

Oak Way House provides care and support to people living in specialist ‘extra care’ housing. Extra care housing is purpose-built or adapted single household accommodation in a shared site or building. The accommodation is rented and is the occupant’s own home. People’s care and housing are provided under separate contractual agreements. CQC does not regulate premises used for extra care housing; this inspection looked at people’s personal care and support service. At the time of our inspection 13 people were receiving personal care. We found that people were respected and valued as individuals and were supported to be fully involved in their care. Staff were caring and knowledgeable about how best to communicate with people and to advocate for them to ensure their views were heard. People were protected by robust safety systems, with a focus on openness, transparency and learning. There were systems in place to make sure the service was safe, with skilled and knowledgeable staff to deliver good quality care. Risks to people were fully assessed and well managed. There was strong leadership which put people first and set high expectations for staff. Staff were proud to work for the service and felt valued for their work. We carried out our on-site assessment on 13 June 2024; off site assessment activity started on 11 June 2024 and ended 14 June 2024.

People spoke positively about their experience of using the service. One person told us, “I moved here from another sheltered housing scheme, and I have never been happier.” Comments from people who used the service and relatives were consistent stating they were extremely happy with the care, treatment and support the service provided. People's dignity and human rights were fully promoted, and people were encouraged to make decisions about their day-to-day routines. One person described how they had been supported to regain their independence after a fall. They said, “I have come on in leaps and bounds thanks to the staff. They fully understood, listened and helped me in a way I wanted.” People told us they received care and support form a consistent staff team that knew them well. One person commented, “The carers are superb. I usually see the same carers which works really well.”
