During a routine inspection
Patients told us the practice accommodated people's personal requirements and that staff were sympathetic to their needs. One patient told us the service was "Very flexible with appointments." Patients and staff said treatment options were always discussed during consultations and people were made aware of costs before proceeding with their care. Patients and staff said consultations took place in treatment rooms and doors were always shut to ensure people's privacy was respected.
Patient treatment records documented people's treatment plans, medical histories and their preferences regarding care and treatment. Patients told us they were asked to update their medical histories during check ups or when they went to the practice for treatment. Emergency medicine and equipment was checked regularly.
The practice undertook hygiene and infection control audits which identified actions to reduce any risks identified. Patients and staff said the practice was always kept clean. We saw the process for decontaminating dental instruments met the requirements of Health Technical Memorandum 01-05: Decontamination in primary dental practices (HTM01-05).
Staff said they were supported and were enabled to undertake appropriate professional development by the service. Staff received appraisals and were provided with appropriate inoculations.
