During an inspection looking at part of the service

We visited Care Needs Limited at their head office in Stockport as a follow up to our previous inspection of the Sandbach branch of Care Needs Limited in July 2012. At this visit we had found Care Needs (Sandbach) to be non compliant in Outcome 7 Safeguarding people who use services from abuse and Outcome 9 Management of Medicines.

During this visit we spoke with the Office Manager and the Business Development Manager. We looked at care files for people who used the service and staff personnel files which were kept on the office premises at their head office in Cheadle.

We spoke by telephone with three care workers from the Sandbach office and two people who used the service in the Sandbach area.

Comments we received from the people we had spoken with were positive. We were told "I can talk to the care workers'; ' I have no reason to complain about anything'; 'No complaints at all with them'; 'Girls do what you want them to'. They also said that the care workers usually arrived on time never missed a visit and on most occasions were visited by the same care workers.

The care workers we spoke with told us that they had received training in safeguarding adults that met with the requirements of the local authority of Cheshire East. The also told us that they now signed the medication record and watched and waited whilst the person who used the service had taken their medication. These practices help to keep people safe.

During a routine inspection

During our inspection the people we visited who used the service told us they were treated well and with respect by the staff that supported them.

We saw staff support people in their homes with, for example, personal care and providing them with their mid day meal. The support was offered in a manner that maintained the person's dignity and privacy. We also saw that the support was offered in a manner that met the person's needs, kept them safe and helped maintain their independence.

The people we visited told us that they did not have any worries about the care and support they received from the staff. They also told us they had relatives who acted on their behalf and that they would ensure they were receiving the care and support they required.

We have not received information from health or social care professionals to show that they have concerns or worries about the care and support offered by the agency.

People who used the service told us they were happy with the staff that supported them.
