Our view of the service
High Green Medical Practice is an NHS practice located within Mary Potter Centre in Hyson Green, Nottingham. It is registered to deliver the regulated activities: diagnostic and screening procedures, maternity and midwifery services, surgical procedures and treatment of disease, disorder or injury. The practice was last rated Good overall with requires improvement in providing effective services (published 30 May 2018). The report was published following CQC’s old inspection approach using key lines of enquiry (KLOEs), prompts and ratings characteristics. This assessment has been completed following the Care Quality Commission (CQC) new approach to assessment; Single Assessment Framework (SAF). We carried out an announced on-site assessment between 22 and 23 May 2024. The assessment included a remote activity which included interviews with staff and clinical searches on the practice’s patient records system. Prior to the assessment we requested evidence from the practice. We assessed 34 quality statements across safe, effective, responsive and well led key questions. At this assessment we found safe recruitment systems in place and effective systems to help protect people from abuse and neglect. People’s care and treatment was usually delivered in line with current guidance and evidence, and by staff who had the required skills, knowledge and experience. Medicines and treatments mostly met people’s needs. People had positive outcomes because they received effective care and treatment that met their needs and were supported to live healthier lives. People could access the care, support and treatment they needed, when they needed it, and in a way that worked for them. There were clear and effective governance structures in place and comprehensive quality assurance systems. However, systems to relating to freedom to speak up needed enhancing to promote a culture of openness in the practice team.
People's experience of this service
As part of this assessment, we spoke with several people who attended the practice regarding their satisfaction of the practice. We received mixed reviews from people. We also reviewed the National GP Patient Survey results and a patient survey carried out by the practice. The National GP Patient Survey results showed the practice scored mostly below local and national averages. 68% of respondents described their overall experience of this GP practice as good, compared to a local and national average of 74%. The practice had reviewed and responded to the National GP Patient Survey data and had taken action to make improvements. We did not see any evidence of suggestions, comments or NHS Friends and Family Test survey responses collected from registered patients. At the time of our assessment the practice did not have a Patient Participation Group. We reviewed complaints, incidents and significant events recorded by the practice. We saw evidence of how these were used to improve the practice and procedures.
