During an inspection in response to concerns
We looked at the assessment process and found that appropriate assessments had taken place prior to peoples' care package starting. This ensured that their needs could be met by the service.
Care plans seen were informative and showed the actions the support workers needed to take to meet the individual needs of the person.
We looked at the recruitment process and identified shortfalls within this. It was evident that the necessary checks had not been completed prior to new support workers commencing work with the service.
We checked to see what training the support workers had received when they joined the service. Although the manager and the support workers spoken with were able to explain what had been provided, there was no written evidence of this. The manager was in the process of developing a training programme for the coming year.
The people using the service told us that they were most satisfied with the service being provided. One person told us: 'I would highly recommend them.' A relative explained: 'We've been very happy with them, they treat her [their mother] very well.'
Support workers spoken with told us how much they enjoyed working for the service. One explained: 'It is absolutely brilliant, I love it, having the chance to help people.' Another told us: 'It's brilliant and there's always someone on the end of the phone if you need anything.'
