The inspection: We carried out this inspection under Section 60 of the Health and Social Care Act 2008 (the Act) as part of our regulatory functions. This inspection was planned to check whether the provider was meeting the legal requirements and regulations associated with the Act, to look at the overall quality of the service, and to provide a rating for the service under the Care Act 2014.
Inspection team: Two adult social care inspectors carried out this inspection.
Service and service type: The service is a Shared Lives Scheme and recruits and supports carers who offer care and support in their own homes to people. The care and support can be temporary, a day service, an overnight service, or provided together with a permanent home. CQC regulates the delivery of personal care and this was looked at on this inspection.
The service had a manager registered with the CQC. This means that they and the provider are legally responsible for how the service is run and for the quality and safety of the care provided.
Notice of inspection: We gave the provider 2 days’ notice of the inspection site visit because we wanted to make arrangements to visit people and their carers.
What we did: Before the inspection we reviewed information we held about the service. This included feedback about the service from the local authority contracts and safeguarding teams.
We also used information the provider sent us in the Provider Information Return. Providers are required to send us key information about their service, what they do well, and improvements they plan to make. This information helps support our inspections.
During the inspection we visited people who use the service and their carers. We spoke with six people and seven carers. We spoke with the registered manager, head of service and two area co-ordinators.
We spent time looking at records, which included two people's care plans, three carer recruitment files and other records relating to the management of the service.
