Our view of the service
Date of assessment 24 April to 2 May 2024. The service has improved. The provider now had enough staff to ensure people’s safety and meet their needs. The provider had new and effective recruitment processes in place. Improvements had been made to how the provider assessed people’s mental capacity and stored important information. However, we found a breach of the legal regulation in relation to good governance. The provider’s system to ensure good governance of the service had failed to identify audits were either not in place or used effectively. We have asked the provider for an action plan in response to the shortfalls we identified during the assessment.
People's experience of this service
People and their relatives told us they were happy with the care and support at Portelet Manor Rest Home. We observed staff providing person-centred care and giving reassurance to a distressed person. Staff felt confident to speak up and raise concerns with trust in the registered manager to address any concerns fully. One person told us, ''The carers are good, it is peaceful here.'' Many improvements had been made since our last inspection. Relatives told us they felt involved in care of their loved ones. One relative told us, ''Staff are really lovely and have time for everybody.'' People were supported to access activities outside of the home.
